About:

"Don’t let yourself be intimidated, be cheeky and wild and wonderful!” – these words of Astrid Lindgren also apply to the heroine of her last novel: Ronja, the daughter of robber baron Matti, grows up in the middle of the forest. One day in her adventures she comes across Birk, the son of the enemy robber tribe of Borka. When their parents each forbid them to be friends, Ronja and Birk escape into the woods… In 2013 the collaboration Junge Opern Rhein Ruhr was the first institution to be granted the much sought-after rights to set Astrid Lindgren’s popular adventure novel as an opera. With music by Jörn Arnecke a brilliant and imaginative family opera was created which has repeatedly delighted young audiences in Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Dortmund and Bonn.
